Menurut data Departemen Kesehatan, jumlah penderita HIV/AIDS di Indonesia terus meningkat, hingga 30 september 2006 jumlah kumulatif pengidap infeksi HIV mencapai 6987 orang,sedangkan pengidap AIDS sebesar 4617 orang.
